the cherry now

DSCF7789 (2)

Loveliest of trees, the cherry now

Is hung with bloom along the bough,

And stands about the woodland ride

Wearing white for Eastertide.

Now, of my threescore years and ten,

Twenty will not come again,

And take from seventy springs a score,

It only leaves me fifty more.

And since to look at things in bloom

Fifty springs are little room,

About the woodlands I will go

To see the cherry hung with snow.

A. E. Housman

I really like this photo and poem pairing Roy – and in a way it fits right in with the cherry blossom feel of the DC posts (if you do not mind me making that stretch) and this up view of the blossoms is gorgeous – with the lines of the branches. ❤

thank you – it was the DC posts that inspired me to take that shot – a solitary cherry tree in my local park where I walk every day with the dogs. And the set of poems “A Shropshire Lad” by A E Housman have been favourites of mine for many years.

well I am sure Mark must be honored to hear that his posts inspired this shot. And my favorite thing about what you captured here is the light – white color of the bloom – whew – these cherry blossoms come in different varieties and just so nice the up view you give us.
and I have not heard the Housman poem – so that was a double treat. have a nice day

Tie between your photo and the Housman poem for beauty, Roy. Well done. And I’m glad you took the tree in your park after seeing my D.C. shots. I’m honored to have my little work over here turn into something so grand over there. Thank you.
